Award-winning chef Orry Shand is to open his first independent restaurant at the Falls of Feugh, near Banchory, this summer.
Shand, who was named National Chef of the Year 2024-25 and Scottish Chef of the Year 2019, is taking over the former Falls of Feugh restaurant, which closed at the end of 2025. The venue is undergoing a £500,000 interior refurbishment and will reopen as Falls by Orry Shand, with 10 new hospitality jobs being created.
The restaurant will offer a set multi-course tasting menu of 12 to 15 servings, focusing on Scottish produce with Nordic inspiration and French cooking techniques. Located at Bridge of Feugh, around 20 miles from Aberdeen, the venue will open for dinner four nights a week, Wednesday to Saturday, from summer 2026.
Shand, originally from Ellon, trained at the former Michelin-starred Number One at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh and under Andrew Fairlie at the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles.
He is currently appearing in the 2026 series of the BBC’s Great British Menu, representing Scotland and Aberdeenshire.
Shand said, “Being Aberdeenshire born and bred, it means so much to me, my family and team to be rooted in the region, celebrating its local produce and its distinctive character. This site offers the perfect riverside location — we looked at several locations in the shire and city, but fell in love with the Falls site as soon as we saw it.”
