WEST Brewery is celebrating 20 years of independent brewing by rolling back the price of its flagship beer to its original 2006 level. It means that from 10 to 12 March, a pint of St Mungo will be available for £2.90 at WEST on the Green and 19 participating venues across Glasgow and surrounding areas.
Founded in 2006, the Glasgow East End brewer has grown from a single-site start-up into one of Scotland’s established independent operators, employing 60 staff and supplying hundreds of on-trade and selected off-trade accounts across Scotland and the wider UK.
The business has remained entirely independently owned, retaining control over production, distribution and brand direction at a time when many independent breweries continue to face rising costs, margin pressure and acquisition by larger groups.
WEST continues to brew, package and distribute all its beer from Glasgow, operating a vertically integrated model it says supports quality and consistency while allowing steady growth. Its bar and restaurant, WEST on the Green, based in the former Templeton’s carpet factory, attracts around 500,000 visitors each year.

Bavarian-born founder Petra Wetzel set up WEST to bring traditional German brewing standards to Scotland. The brewery says it is the only one in the UK to brew all its lagers and ales in line with the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516, using four ingredients – soft water from Loch Katrine, British malted barley, noble Hallertau hops and proprietary yeast strains. The approach is applied across its range, including St Mungo, WEST 4, Heidi-Weisse and Munich Red.
Leadership transitioned in 2021, when Wetzel stepped back from day-to-day operations and Matt Munro was appointed managing director.
Munro said, “Reaching 20 years is a significant milestone in any sector, but particularly in brewing, where the market has changed dramatically since we launched. From the outset, WEST was built around doing things properly — brewing traditionally, investing for the long term and staying independent. These decisions have allowed us to grow sustainably and remain in control of our future.
“St Mungo has been at the heart of the business since day one, so revisiting its original price felt like a fitting way to recognise the customers and trade partners who’ve supported us over the last two decades.”
During the anniversary period, WEST on the Green will also offer its signature Currywurst at a throwback price of £6.80, available in-venue and via Uber Eats.
The brewery said its focus remains on steady, sustainable growth, with continued investment in brewing capability, people and its Glasgow base. Munro added, “Our ambition is simple: to keep building on what’s made WEST successful, independent ownership, quality beer and strong roots in Glasgow and to make sure the business is in great shape for the next 20 years.”
