Pogues Irish Whiskey ready to rock in 2017

Band 1

Pogues Irish Whiskey is to help the UK’s next big rock band secure ‘A Shot At Discovery’ with a new campaign starting in March 2017, which aims to uncover up-and-coming artists in partnership with Academy Events.

The winning band will receive £3,000 towards band equipment, as well as studio time to record and release an EP guest produced by members of The Pogues. Fronted by Shane MacGowan, the band is best-known for their 1988 song Fairytale of New York.

Regional heats for A Shot At Discovery will be held at O2 Academy venues across the UK between 5 – 16 and March 2017. The Glasgow heat will take place 9 March.

Finalists from the regional events will go head-to-head in front of music industry professionals in April at O2 Academy Islington, London.

The Pogues said, “This is our opportunity to foster courageous and original music. If you have what it takes to record with us and perform at the UK’s best music venues, we’d love you to enter. This could be a wholly new and exciting shot at a music career.”

The official whiskey of The Pogues is a blend of 50% grain and 50% single malt whiskey made by West Cork Distillers, one of Ireland’s last independent distilleries.

The A Shot At Discovery campaign aims to consolidate The Pogues Irish Whiskey’s presence and distribution in the on-trade.

A spokesperson for the brand’s UK distributor, Halewood Wines & Spirits, added, “Music is at the heart of our brand so ‘A Shot At Discovery’ enables us to connect with new and existing audiences in a relevant and engaging way.”
