The Victoria Bar on Leith Walk in Edinburgh has temporarily closed after a customer tested positive for Covid-19.
Owner Anna Christopherson of The Boda Bar Group told DRAM, “The customer was in the bar on Friday 14th August between 4.45 and 5.45pm after returning from Malta on the 11th of August, where it is believed he contracted Covid-19. He only started feeling unwell the next day which is when he got tested and as soon as he got the positive result he called me at midnight on Saturday the 15th and I took the decision to close immediately in order to protect the welfare of our customers and employees and so that there will not be another lockdown of hospitality in Edinburgh.”
“There were only 4 other customers in at the time plus a member of staff who is now in self-quarantine for 14 days, plus the customer in question was wearing a mask and I also know that his girlfriend has tested negative. I wish him well during his recovery and want to ensure our customers and employees that thorough cleaning and sanitisation measures have been taken.”
“This highlights the importance of track and trace and the NHS is contacting all the other customers in the bar, although because they are regulars and I put this on social media, the process has been quicker as I had a few of them contact me. ”
As well as the NHS, Anna has also been in touch with her local MSP and Edinburgh Licensing and is awaiting advice on when he bar will be able to reopen.
