Bollywood actor and entrepreneur Dr Vivek Anand Oberoi has taken a 21% stake in Edinburgh-based Rutland Square Spirits Ltd, as part of a wider plan to invest over £150 million into Scotland’s spirits and hospitality sectors.

The deal sees Dr Oberoi become Chairman of Rutland Square, which sits under parent company Rosslyn Distillery Ltd. The partnership aims to scale the brand’s premium spirit range globally and support a series of major developments in Scotland.

Founded by , Rutland Square is known for its East-meets-West approach, with products like oolong white tea-infused gin and chai-spiced rum. Nishant, originally from India and now Edinburgh-based, brings cultural insight to the brand, while Veenu draws on her experience in business and property.

“This partnership is more than just an investment,” said the Sharmas. “We’re creating something that celebrates craftsmanship, cultural richness and the hospitality both Scotland and India are known for.”

The investment will also support a proposed net-zero luxury hotel in Edinburgh, featuring Europe’s first hydrogen-powered hotel facilities and Scotland’s first Ayurvedic wellness centre.

Dr Oberoi said: “Scotland is a beautiful country with deep-rooted traditions and a strong Indian business community. I look forward to working closely with the team to bring this vision to life. This marks a new chapter in Scotland’s hospitality sector, promising a future of sustainability, heritage, and world-class experiences.”

The team at Rosslyn Distillery say the partnership marks the start of a long-term strategy to position Scotland as a hub for culturally driven, sustainable hospitality – with more developments expected soon.
