Two key figures at Suntory Global Spirits have been inducted into the Keepers of the Quaich, the international society that recognises exceptional contributions to the Scotch whisky industry.
Dr Calum Fraser, Chief Blender for the company’s Scotch and Irish portfolio, was joined by Nicole Ehlen, Managing Director for Germany, France and Northern Europe, in receiving official recognition for their positive impact on the industry.
Dr Fraser oversees production and quality across some of Suntory’s most iconic brands, including single malts Laphroaig, Bowmore, Auchentoshan, Ardmore and Glen Garioch, as well as blends such as Teacher’s and Ardray. On the Irish side, his remit includes Connemara, Kilbeggan and Tyrconnell.
Dr Fraser said, “I’m honoured to be named a Keeper of the Quaich, a title held by many I admire in the whisky industry. At Suntory Global Spirits, I work to protect and enhance some of the world’s most legendary Scotch whiskies. I’m proud to be part of an industry and a company that honours its past while building a future rooted in quality, innovation and sustainability.”
Nicole Ehlen has led the development of Laphroaig, Bowmore and Auchentoshan in Germany and across multiple EMEA markets in a variety of roles. Under her guidance, Germany has become a key market for Laphroaig.
Chris Richardson, Managing Director for Scotch & Irish at Suntory Global Spirits – and himself a Keeper since 2024 – said, “Huge congratulations to Calum and Nicole. Calum’s expertise and passion have made a lasting impact on the quality and character of our whiskies, and this recognition is a testament to the role Suntory continues to play in upholding the values and craft of the Scotch industry.”
